MARiS HELP
Welcome to the MARIS help page. Please see the relevant section below for help.
Search Page
This is where you enter the criteria for your search of the MARIS data. The
following fields are mandatory for the search: either Region or Coordinates;
Sample Type and Tracer. The Submit button at the bottom of the pages will
remain disabled until the mandatory criteria have been selected.
To begin, select either the "Search by Region" or the "Search by Coordinates"
radio button. If you select to "Search by Region", the Region and Subregion
drop-down lists become active and you can select from these drop-downs.
Selecting a Subregion is optional and narrows down the number of results
returned. See next section on how to "Search by Coordinates".
Next select a "Sample Type" from the drop-down list. Changing the sample type,
causes the fields beneath the drop-down to change. This allows you to enter
criteria relevant to the selected sample type. You can further refine your
search by entering criteria in these fields but they are not mandatory.
Finally select a "Tracer" from the drop-down list. This is a mandatory field.
Search by Coordinates
If you would rather search by coordinates than by region, check the "Search by
Coordinates" radio button. This will enable the coordinates fields. You can
manually enter the degrees, minutes and direction into the fields or you can
use a map helper. Click on the "Select Map Coordinates" link. This will pop-up
a window displaying a map of the world. You can zoom in on the region that you
are interested in by drawing a rectangle with your mouse and releasing. As you
draw the rectangular area, the coordinates for that area are displayed on the
pop-up window status bar. Once you have selected your region, click the
"Return" button to close the pop-up window and return to the Search criteria
page. You will find that the coordinates that you selected in the map are now
automatically entered in the coordinates fields.
If you have already selected a sample type and tracer before you click the link
to open the map, then the map will highlight areas where the selected sample
type and tracer can be found.
Fields Tab
You can customise the data that is returned from the search by clicking the
"Fields" tab on the Search page and checking the checkboxes beside the fields
you require to be returned by the search. Some of the fields are auto-selected
but you can de-select these if you wish.
